Good news for Amsterdammers with fear of heights: a researcher from Vrije Universiteit has designed a virtual reality therapy to help you get rid of your fear. And you can do it at home.
A therapy, because thirty percent of all people suffer from fear of heights. ‘People with fear of heights have difficulty standing at great heights. It makes them feel anxious, they start to sweat, shake, get palpitations and feel dizzy, says VU researcher Dr. Tara Donker. And if it’s up to Donker, that’s a thing of the past.
With the help of virtual reality goggles, you can tackle your fear of heights yourself, at home on the couch. ‘The moment you put to goggles on your head you enter the virtual world. Your body and mind react to it as if were real, ‘says Donker. This makes it ideal for practicing with fear of heights.
